Judicial review / Public Law
Public law is the set of laws which govern the power of public authorities. Public authorities can be anything from a government minister to your local council. All of those bodies have to act according to certain rules. We act for individuals who can challenge the fairness or legality of their decisions. By way of Judicial Review, a single individual can change the law forever. Christian Khan has specialised this field for 20 years.
Our results have truly empowered many individuals. Those taking judicial review proceedings are often poor and disadvantaged through no fault of their own. The decision made about their cases may determine whether they will have carers to assist them or whether a criminal prosecution should go ahead because their son was killed by others.
All of our solicitors receive thorough training to ensure that whatever your case you are treated fairly by the state and that your rights under the Human Rights Act have been upheld. If the decision is based on an erroneous interpretation of the law, or the decision-making process is unfair or biased, those who are detrimentally affected by the decision have the right to challenge it using one of the remedies available.
Our cases have included challenges to all branches of the state and most recently Louise Christian challenged the Foreign Office to make representations to the United States Government to return the Guantanamo detainees to the UK for a fair trial and to end their illegal detention.
